Why choose burial in a Catholic Cemetery?
As people of faith, we look forward to sharing in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ and life everlasting. Honoring the Christian dead and providing them with a fitting place for burial are concrete expression of this hope. For this reason, one of the duties of the Church is to have its own cemeteries, blessed and reserved for the faithful.
Catholic cemeteries have always been sacred ground and a perpetual trust. Cemeteries point to the sacredness of life and Christ promise of the resurrection of the body at the end of time. As such, sacred grounds are an effective reminder of the body, the earthly dwelling of the soul, is itself a creation of God, manifesting His life and goodness. Though now laying in death, the body will be raised up at the end of time and joined once again to the soul, so that the whole human person may experience the joys of Heaven and share fully in the Lord promise of eternal life. It is, then, a truly precious treasure which our Catholic cemeteries hold and guard.
